The 2020 Select Charity Virtual Horse Show
Download or print and become familiar with the rules. This show may be different from ones you have done in the past, and the rules may vary regarding anything from courses to tests to tack and dress.
Entry forms are due ASAP. After receipt of payment, you will be assigned a "back number" which should be displayed at the beginning of your video. You will be advised where you may submit the url address of your video.
Entry videos are due October 11th, 2020. Class placings will be posted on or before October 18th.
Tack: Appropriate equipment should be used for English, Western and halter classes.
Attire: Show attire is not required. Just be neat and clean, Helmets required for 18 and under. Boots required or shoe with a small heal for safety purposes.
Video: The honor system applies here! The video must be one continuous filming and unedited from start to finish. Not best trip out of four or best bits edited together.
- Take a sheet of paper and write the name of the horse, the name of the rider, and the class number and name. Please video this first, then do the class, then go back to the sheet of paper for identification.
- Test readers are allowed for all patterned classes. This means that you can have someone call to you what is next to do in the pattern. They cannot tell you how to do it.
- Coaching during a test or round is not allowed.
- Take your video from the long side of the ring.
- Hold your phone/camera horizontally when filming
- Make sure the sound is turned ON.
- If you are outdoors, make sure the sun is behind you.
- Film from a slightly elevated position, if you can, never from ground level.
- Do not video too close to the horse or too far away. For example, you need to have enough perspective that the judge can see as the horse approaches a jump or obstacle and the jump or obstacle must be in the shot.
- Avoid the shakes. A shaky video will be difficult to judge and may even be rejected. Use a tripod for best results.
- Make sure there are as few background distractions as possible. Examples would be dogs, cats or kids running around, other people riding, equipment or vehicles moving.
- Videos that would be inadmissible would be as follows:
- Rider is not wearing an approved safety helmet
- Horse appears lame
- Unsafe actions of horse, rider or other participants or bystanders involved as determined by the judge.
- Unsafe surroundings
- Course or test requirements not being met
- Extremely poor quality video.
- No exhibitor number displayed at the beginning of the video. No class number displayed at the beginning of a video. You may use a white board to write the Exhibitor Number and Class number down and video this first, then move camera to horse/exhibitor to complete the video.
- Class entry fees: 8 & under $3.00 per class; 9-18 $4.00 per class; 19 & over $5.00 per class. One entry fee per horse/exhibitor combination per class. Exhibitor may show more than one horse. Horse may be in the same class with another exhibitor showing it also.
- Classes will be limited to 20 entries per class. So, get your entries in early. Use the on line entry form.
- Placings are 1st through 8th place. All ribbons will be mailed to you.

As everyone may have different obstacles they practice with at home, we are asking that you follow the guidelines listed below.
Obstacles can be as follows (chose 4)
1) Mailbox – open box, show mail to the “camera”, place mail back in box and close the box.
2) Bridge – walk over a trail class type bridge (do not use a bridge on a roadway). This obstacle should be a minimum of 3 feet wide and 6 feet long.
3) Gate – open gate with one hand not removing your hand from the gate while maneuvering the horse through the gate. This can be a makeshift rope gate, or the gate to the arena if ”workable” for this type of obstacle.
4) Walk over poles – these should measure 20-24” apart, use four poles
5) Trot over poles – these should measure 3 ft to 3.5 ft apart, use three or four poles
6) Lope over poles – these should be 6 ft to 7 ft apart, use three poles
7) Boxes – made of poles should be 5-to 8 foot squares. You may do walk throughs, 360 degree turns or 180 degree turns.
8) Pinwheel – Take duct tape or electrical tape and create a four inch square on top of a 55-gallon barrel. Pick up a PVC pole about 8-12 ft long and place one end inside the square. Holding on to the other end of the pole, walk you horse around the barrel in one complete circle without allowing the pvc pole to leave the 4 inch square.
9) Dragging an object (such as a tire with a rope) – Drag the item approximately 15 feet
10) Pulling an object (such as a tire with a rope) – Pull the object towards you by backing your horse so that the object is coming towards your horse.
11) Back through poles – space poles 36 inches apart.
12) Cones – serpentine – use four cones and navigate your horse through the cones in a serpentine.
13) Put on slicker while mounted
14) Step over caveletti poles at a walk – to simulate a log fallen across a trail
Manuevers that can be used as an object
